I have become that crazy woman whose life revolves around her kittens.

All my life the one picture I had of myself that made sense was the crazy woman alone in her attic surrounded by scores of cats. To my surprise I got married. Now I have kitties. Just two.

We're on kitten watch, tho.

Lolly is very, very sick. She was the runt when we got her a whole week ago. Weighing in at 1.8 pounds at 14 weeks old, we had to teach her that it was okay to eat. By the end of day two she eating on her own, with the occasional reminder. She played for the first time that afternoon. It only lasted about 5 minutes, but it was real play. On day three she and Dilly started tussling. Lolly lost every time yet she kept coming back for more. By the end of day four she was setting up kitten ambushes. Though all this she's been the cuddler. If you make the mistake of sitting down, she will be in your lap in minutes. Then she'll climb up and sit on your shoulder. "Lolly want a cracker?"

Yesterday she didn't want to play. She started throwing up last night.

Then she didn't come in to sleep with us. We found her this morning on the kitchen floor. It was all she could do to pick herself up and move from one cold spot to another.

In to the vet we went.

The diagnosis is bad. It might be Corona Virus. It might be true Distemper. Either way, the next 24 hours will reveal all.

The vet was so uncertain about whether Lolly could pull through that she didn't even want to hospitalize her. I was sent home with a sick kitten and an IV drip.

Lolly is resting now in a specially prepared box on top of an electric blanket, because her temperature was low. She's gained over half a pound since her last vet visit on Monday, which is about the only thing she has in her favor right now.

Dilly won't play today either. She knows something in wrong; she keeps climbing in the box to check on her sister. Right now, she's grooming her.

All this, and I have papers to grade.

No word on Grandma yet, either. She's still in critical condition, tho stabilized. She's not very responsive to commands, but no one knows if it's from brain damage or if she just can't hear (she's deaf as a rock).

I told you my life was a TV show. Probably with very poor ratings.

I hope Lolly pulls through. (Are you sure you should let the other one near her if it's a virus?)

There hasn't been a time in their life when the two kittens haven't been together. Letting her near Lolly now makes no difference. They've already been eating out of the same food bowl, drinking from the same water bowl, and sleeping on top of each other for the entire week we've had them. I know it was the same before because when we met them last weekend, Dilly was sleeping on top of Lolly then.

Both the kitties have had their Distemper shots. The question at this point is whether Lolly was incubating the disease before her shot.

Dilly's also a much healthier kitten overall. Even if she does get sick, she will very likely pull through.

Lolly is a concern because she's so underweight.

Is it obvious my pet experience is confined to things that live in tanks? :) (Lizards, hermit crabs, and fish...)
