I come up with the most wonderful LJ updates as I'm trying to fall asleep in bed each night. Of course, none of them end up here--which is really a waste. Then again, maybe it's for the best. They do tend to epitomize the non sequitur.

My insomnia story has evolved to include a fictitious television show called "Ordinary Man" set in a post-TP-esque world where almost everyone is TP-like and the world must be saved from its newest (undetermined) threat by a group of 'ordinary' people.

School is going fantastically. I have the greatest group of students one could ask for for an initiation. I also have the best TA: [livejournal.com profile] sage_theory . Alas, I can only pay her in pats on the head, but she certainly does deserve them.

I have an office now. Although I do share with one other person, she teaches the 8:00 class while I have a 2:00 class, so never the twain shall meet. Seriously. I even wrote her an introduction note on the white board in the office which she may or may not have read, but she hasn't erased it and she hasn't responded to it. So, for all I know, she doesn't exist.

Today we (that is, the class and I) discussed logical fallacies. I'm starting to settle into a pattern with them: we do a little more of the textbook, have an in class journal assignment, and then do some group work. It seems to be going well. The textbook I chose--in my three day burst of reading seven texts cover-to-cover in hopes of finding one by the first day of school--is heavy on the critical thinking. IME from subbing in four high schools, that's the skill the students lack the most on entering college. So we're not working on writing so much as critical thinking; although, they are practicing their critical thinking on their writing. I've already made it really clear that "it was boring" is not an acceptable reason for anything. During today's logical fallacy lecture, we discussed circular logic, i.e. "it was boring because it didn't interest me." Which, frankly, I heard waaaay too much last year.

Friday, they get their first paper assigned. This shouldn't be too much of a shock since they've been working on it in bits and pieces for the last two weeks. Later this semester they get to write me a short persuasive essay in their journals on why we should or should not have class on Thanksgiving Wednesday.

::evil cackle::

I love this job!

Yes. But it's not a vote. Even if all 20 of them take the "pro" stance, they still have to convince me. Of course, it probably won't take that much :)

If you don't kick ass on your review their is no justice. Glad you are having fun. If you need a shoulder to cry on after large papers I'm here for you.
