We got the mortgage. More specifically, we got a mortgage. It wasn't the one everyone wanted us to get, but it was the one for which we qualified. This has induced the aforementioned everyone to get mad at me, not us. They're coming around as I force them to understand exactly why decisions had to be made the way they were, but there were still more than a few nasty things said to me. ::sighs::
Now . . .
I don't know whether to be happy or terrified. Yes, I've now completed another checkbox on the list of things Society says I have to want and accomplish. Gotta say that's a shock since I have at no time sought these things because of Society; quite the opposite. But I'm also more in debt than I've ever been, and it's set up so there's no way to every actually get out of it. Welcome to the rat race.
gryphbear was the angel of surprises. He sent me the coveted copy of "Dead Like Me" which I have now viewed twice. I like it. I like it in the way that I liked "Welcome to the Hellmouth". The episode showed a lot of humor, a lot of potential, and a tendency towards character development that seems to be lacking in a lot of shows these days. Alas, I'll likely never get to find out what happens next since I don't have Showtime.
In different news:
A new Chinese restaurant has opened in town. Let's home this one lasts a touch longer than the Mexican restaurant that didn't even survive its own Grand Opening last fall. We're going to try it out tonight.
In the last couple weeks, our town of 2400 has seen the opening of a model train store (specializing in Z scale, alas), a Japanese wedding kimono store, and a Chinese restaurant. Call me befuddled. The reason the Mexican restaurant closed is because no one here knew what to do with food that hasn't been soaked in lye or cooked into a cassarole. And I'm not sure what people are going to do with Japanese wedding kimonos until and unless they discover some new and innovative way to incorporate them into ice fishing.
Okay, I know I bash them a lot. I like this town. I wish I could take the buildings and a couple of the people with me when we move. I could see myself retiring back to this town in 30 or 40 years. But they really are a bit ethnically limited.

Wow, a mortgage

A cat is next on our agenda. We have to go find Picadilly. I'm hoping we'll find her by Christmas.
