Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes!
(And happy belated to
kerravonsen; it sounds like you had a great one.)
I'm honestly surprised that I didn't have to spend my birthday in the hospital. It seemed only logical that my child would do that to me. So now we're just waiting for whenever she does decide to arrive. Though, if she's not here by the 21st, we're going to induce. My doctor is going hunting over Thanksgiving, and he doesn't want to be called back. Can't say I blame him. I'd really like to have her here by Thanksgiving too, so I can have a few days off work that I don't have to cover with sick leave (my uni doesn't provide maternity leave).
I've been bogging myself under with work, trying to get everything into the best possible shape it can be in for when I'm suddenly not there. Hence, very little online time.
The students are getting antsy, too. I walked into my evening class last night two minutes late to find one of my students on the phone with the hospital, trying to see if the baby had been born yet or not. No matter how many times I tell them that news, when there is any, will be posted to the Desire2Learn site, they can't seem to get it through their heads to believe me. Also, they can't seem to get it out of their heads that my going on leave does not in any way equate to them getting: a substitute teacher (not done at this level), automatic A's (not this class! The vast majority of them are borderline or flunking already), or a "get out of class free" card (they still have two final papers to do, and even in a normal semester the classroom time would be ended about now so we could concentrate on conferences, computer lab time, and Writing Center visits).
MiL and GMiL came down a couple weeks ago to put the baby's room together. They did a great job. They also managed to unpack several boxes that weren't meant to be unpacked and "put away" papers I was in the process of grading, thereby making me think that I'd either lost the papers or the students hadn't turned them in. Fortunately I found the papers without too much hassle, and those particular students were quite understanding. I wish I had more students like them.
For my birthday, DH bought me Civilization IV, which I've been playing with a sense of desperation. Once the child arrives, there'll be no more computer games in my life for some time. I'm still very much on the fence as to whether or not I like the game (the designers seem to have added a lot more micromanagement than they removed) and they've taken away several of the info screens that I used to depend on. But I seem to recall that I initially dislike every new version of Civ, so maybe I'll grow to like this one in time.
Civ, school, and waiting -- that's pretty much a summary of what's going on here. News, when there is any, will be posted to TPDIS, and will no doubt filter back to LJ.
