Delurking for a moment just to squeal . . .

10 Years!

A decade ago, while immersed in my Junior year of undergrad, a friend talked me into starting a mailing list dedicated to the virtually unknown, and certainly unloved* Tomorrow People fandom. I did with great trepidation, since the show meant so much to me, but I couldn't imagine a) anyone else sharing the sentiment or b) anyone actually having anything to talk or write about. Boy, was I wrong.

I could stand being wrong like this a lot more.

*hugs everyone who had any hand in making this possible*

To Mark S., wherever you are, thank you for not only suggesting the obvious (if you want a mailing list that badly, why not start your own?), but for donating the server space on which we cut our teeth.

And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drednort, [livejournal.com profile] tptigger, [livejournal.com profile] estirose, and [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen who were there at the very beginning, and who are still here. It's good to know that I'm not the only one crazy enough to stick around for a decade.

* The fandom had just gone through a major implosion that almost permanently killed it. My biggest struggle in the first years was getting people to give a TP fandom another chance. Also, making tapes.

I thought Shaun joined during year two??

Maybe I'm wrong...

No, you're right. I can't be sure exactly when but it was sometime in the first half of 1996.

I did search around on the net for TP information in 1995, but found virtually nothing and that would have probably been just before the list started. In 1996, I joined a Highlander mailing list and encountered Highlander/TP crossover fanfics and that lead me to TPFICT and thence to TPDIS.

Between March and June 1996, maybe?

20th April 1996 - I used those archives. Which are actually rather disturbing.

Tell me about it. The writing of insane 12-year-olds should not be permanently archived on the Internet. Oh well!

Anyway, congratulations to the whole list for keeping things going this long. And Wendy, thank you so much for starting it all.

OK, so you weren't there on day 1. Being there by month six still counts as (almost) the very beginning in my book.

Was I actually there from the start? Well I know I was there from the start of TPFICT because I believe I posted the first story there...

And yes, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

You had to have been there on day 1 because TPFICT was created first. Today is actually TPFICT's birthday alone. TPDIS didn't come into being until the middle of December.

BTW, your icon rocks!

Ah, okay.

BTW, your icon rocks!

Thank you!
It exists because [livejournal.com profile] tptigger requested a TP icon. I made two, she took both, but I reserved the right as creator to use this one for myself also.

I seem to recall the first ever story posted was "CONsternation" which you posted on Jenny Hayward's behalf, IIRC. You are Ruby Red right.

There exists a hard copy print out of that story with the complete headers in this house, somewhere.

I am indeed. The story was originally in one of the Enarrare zines.

WOOOOHOOOO!

10 years of TPFICT. I wasn't there from the beginning (sad), but I know I'll be there 'til the end (which there won't be one, 'cause the fandom will just go on and on into eternity).

Also: you've been the best listmom EVAH.

I have so much love for TPFICT. For you. For my fandom.

*LOVE*

- Meg

Yay for 10 years of TPFICT - the list that actually introduced me to the existence of fanfic! I didn't actually manage to join til sometime in the summer of '96.

And I still have my T-shirt. :)
