Wow. I didn't realize just how long it'd been since I last said anything here.

For the most part it's been a long, delightfully boring summer. The highlights include (in no particular order):

  • Exactly one month til the new term. Work vaguely started on the new syllabus.

  • [livejournal.com profile] sagetheory went to visit [livejournal.com profile] tptigger and they decided to call me from the restaurant. Not the first time I've spoken to either of them, but definitely the first time I've spoken to them at the same time. 'Twas frightening. Fic should result.

  • It's a girl.

  • No work at all done on NaNoWriSu. I'll probably mean to get back to that novel for the rest of my life.

  • DH and I are off to London for a week. We promise to try not to get blown up.

  • Book list isn't exactly diminishing, tho I am getting quite a bit read. Too bad we keep visiting bookstores. It's impossible to walk out of one of those things without yet another stack for my queue.

  • Suprise email from old college friend received. He saw The Tomorrow People boxed set in the stores and thought of me. Maybe we'll be able to stay in touch this time.

  • Soylent Green is people.

    That's all. Catch ya'll later.

    Soylent Green is people.

You realize I am now obligated to tie you up, gag you with a dirty sock, and stick you headfirst into the laundry basket of a professional football team?

A friend of mine had that movie spoiled for her in a similar manner, and that was the punishment I came up with for people who spoil movies which have huge twists, such as revealing that Soylent Green is people, or revealing the end of "The Witness for the Prosecution".

Not Everybody Has Seen That Movie Already.

Not Everybody Has Seen That Movie Already.

Not a surprise. I only just saw it two weeks ago, which is why it's on the list.

However, didn't in any way consider the twist a spoiler because it's become part of modern parlance. I went into the movie knowing the twist. At least three more modern SF shows (Buffy being one) have had some joke based on the phrase "Soylent Green is people." And I hear people on the street use the phrase for when something is supposed to be a big shocker and isn't. IMO, when a movie is over 30 years old and/or has become a classic, it doesn't deserve spoiler protection.
