The offer we made on the house was accepted. So I'm cloistered here with my copy of Mortgages For Dummies until I feel comfortable enough with the language to make that oh-so-frightening call to the bank, and naturally all I can think about is fanfic.

I spent a few minutes last night talking to [livejournal.com profile] tptigger about her story, throwing some ideas at her to mine or ignore as she sees fit. Then I pulled up a short piece I'm working on and discovered that a huge chunk of it is missing, which probaby means that the piece can now be relegated to the dust bin since I've long since thrown out the scrap of paper on which the original was drafted.

The best advice for writing I ever heard--attribution unknown--is roughly: don't write what you know; write the stories that you want to read.

Since I'm more impatient than that and would really like some good stories to read now and not in a few decades after I've written them, here are two fanfic stories I'd really like to see. If anyone knows of similar or exact fits, please pass on the info.

Roswell -- set post "Graduation". A non-shipper piece that deals with Kyle coming into his latent alien powers. The story should ideally be about more than that, perhaps Kyle's story being one plot thread in a larger work.

JAG/Highlander -- set anytime that works. Either Harm or Mac are assigned to defend a young seaman in a dueling case. Since it's a crossover, naturally the seaman is Immortal. No one on the JAG end of things should have any prior knowledge of Immortals, nor should they be pre-Immortals, Watchers, etc. They can learn about Immortality in the course of things, but they still have to find a way to defend his case without revealing his secrets.

I'm sure I'll have more later. Even as snarkily as the Mortages book is written, there's still only so much ARM and FRM stuff my little brain can handle.
