Galacticfed.com is down.

Apparently it has been for quite some time. It was going down and coming back up sporadically a couple months back. Now it seems to not only be down, but it seems that the host has gone buh-bye. I've gotten no notification from them at all about anything in ages, so I don't even know if they owe me money. As far as I can remember, I only paid them once for a year's service, and I think that was a few years ago.

It's possible I'm wrong on this since I try to have as many things as possible auto-billed to my credit cards. My whole "lack of concept of time" handicap means that I'm not always real good at remembering to pay bills by those things ... what're they called? ... oh yeah .. deadlines.

Anyway. The host is gone. Their main web page is gone. It looks like that domain is up for sale. My site is gone. My domain still exists. It just lacks a home.

For some reason, I've been unable to get an answer from Xmission about how much it'll cost to just move everything over there. Half the info on the galacticfed domain is stored on Xmission anyway, since they're the ones who had the cgi-bin that I could access reliably.

I got an email last night from someone who actually noticed that the Sliders Fic archive was gone. I didn't know anyone was still going there, as the only correspondance I've received concerning it over the past 2 years was requests to remove stories. The person who emailed yesterday is somewhat of a Name in what remains of the online Sliders fandom, so if he's noticing, perhaps others are too.

If anyone knows a reliable, cheap host that will respond to my email, please rec.

I'm thinking of going back to pair.com.

In other news, I realized today at the VR.5 episode "Simon's Choice" is an adaptation of the Ambrose Bierce story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." If any of my students would bother to notice things like this, they'd be able to rack up some significant extra credit.

Hmmm .. it looks when I tried to fix the double posting, I deleted the one that had all the comments on it.

Thanks to everyone who suggested a provider. Now I have a place to begin my search.

There're no worries about recovering the content of the site since it's all backed up offline in several places. All my sites are coded offline and then uploaded, so I never have to worry about hosts accidentally deleting things. I just have to worry about me accidentally deleting things :)
