This goes back to my Freshman-in-College days, at the ripe old age of 17 when I had the misfortune of attending Florida State University. The University had a rather liberal loophole in their classroom attendance policy. Because of PC-itis, someone had decided that students could miss class for religious reasons without question and without penalty.

We couldn't have been very far into the school year, since it was only Sep 9th, but my roommate and I woke up that morning and decided we didn't want to attend classes that day. So we declared it a holiday. We told our Profs we were observing a religious holiday, and they couldn't say boo about it.

For various reasons we decided the holiday was the celebration of the color green. Later we decided that we had discovered the color green on that day. Still later that afternoon, we realized we had also discovered the colors yellow and purple. All this, and there was no alcohol involved.

Discovery of Green (and Yellow and Purple) day became the cornerstone, the main holiday, of our religion -- whatever that was. We never clarified more beyond the main holidays and the Trinity of Ground Beef. Next up is October 10th, which is Remembrance of Discovery of Green (and Yellow and Purple) day; a two-day holiday on December 29th and 30th called Tea Day (there's some schism over this. No one's sure if you're supposed to observe this holiday by abstaining from the beverage Tea, or by consuming it in large quantity. Either way is correct); and March 21st which is Mustard Day, in celebration of a bottle of common yellow mustard that followed another friend from location to location for well over 5 years after its expiration date.

Aren't you glad you asked?

I'm surprised you're not running far, far away. Ya know, beyond the fact that you're already far, far away :)

No, no, this is wonderfully madly creative. I'm just surprised you kept it up.

LOL

Well, it's not like I still take the day off of work or school or anything. As it happens, I did have yesterday off, but that was a fluke of the calendar and not because of a religious celebration.

In those years I remember, I wish people a happy day. Really, can people be wished happiness often enough? If for some reason I forget about Sep 9th, that's what Oct 10th is for--a second chance to do the holiday.

At this point, it's all for old time's sake. I'm not even in touch with that roommate anymore. We had a falling over very shortly after declaring Sep 9th and haven't spoken since.

"Trinity of Ground Beef"?

What ever happened to paying respects to the holiest of all, the almighty meatloaf!

The Almighty Meatloaf is at the top of the Trinity of Ground Beef.

We do need to be careful, however, that we don't forget Its Consort Goddess: The Potato. The Meatloaf would be nowhere without its Holy Side Dish.
