My goal for this week is to memorize "The Walrus and the Carpenter."

I'll let you know if I think of a reason why.

It's the last week of school. Been doing student conferences all week because I saw no reason to have class. The students need time to work on their portfolios. However, the school requires me to have a class during final's week in which I do some sort of "meaningful instructional activity." I've decided to have the students watch a movie and bring in food. Oh yeah, and turn in their portfolios. The so-called-final is on Monday at 3:00. After that, I'm done for the semester. Well, besides the pesky grading.

I did not get the Nagasaki position. This does not bother me given that it's the middle of December, the hiring committee didn't get the position filled until yesterday, and the work for the position had to start two months ago. Also, I think the Academic Director should really be an extrovert and I'm really not.

I'll let you know if I think of a reason why.

One never needs a reason to memorize Lewis Carroll poetry. I've got a few in my own repertoire.

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot. And whether pigs have wings."

(PS - hi ladyslvr from a TPDIS lurker!)

Hey Trina

I didn't know you were on LJ.

"The time has come...

Yup, that's the one. Since I'm always quoting that particular verse, I figured it was time to learn the other seventeen. They're learned now, but they're just not as quotable.

Next is "The Hunting of the Snark."

Mind if I friend you?

I don't have all 18 stanzas memorzied, but I can do the first two and several others without a hitch.

I have no desire to memorize "The Hunting of the Snark." I have no desire to *read* "The Hunting of the Snark." Either I was too young when I attempted reading it, or it's just not my cuppa. :-) "Jabberwocky," "A Mouse's Tail," and "The Lobster Quadrille" on the other hand... Longest poem I ever memorized was "The Pied Piper" by Robert Browning. But I blame Eric Idle for that.

I didn't know you were on LJ.

I'm a recent convert. One of my friends, who was getting into it, sent me an invite. And I am now seeing the appeal. (However, I may never see the appeal of the card game Bridge...)

Mind if I friend you?

Only if you don't mine if I reciprocate. :-)

I'm not sure if "The Hunting of the Snark" is my cuppa either. I'm just looking for a challenge, and one that is interesting enough to keep my attention. Lewis Carroll fits the bill.

Only if you don't mind if I reciprocate.

Sounds like a deal. :)
