Each year or so, my niece is gifted a book on her birthday. This book is one I deem to be a classic of children's literature, and is therefore one she must have in her library. In addition to the book, I compose a brief poem based on the themes of the book and write it on the front flyleaf.
For her babyshower I gave her Peter Pan by Sir J.M. Barrie, with a slightly earlier draft of the poem here.
For her first birthday she got an illustrated edition of Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, with ( this poem )
And for her third birthday (last week) she received a hardcover edition of The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. As she's currently going through an extreme princess stage, this seemed especially timely. In that book went ( this poem )
