One of my grandfather's favorite little poem-ettes goes:
When they said 'nose' I thought they said 'rose' and asked for a big red one.
When they said 'brains' I thought they said 'trains' and missed it.
Apparently when "they" were handing out traits to humankind, I missed out on 'concept of time.' I'm pretty good at judging the length of a minute without a clock. Usually I handle an hour. Anything longer than that is beyond me. Very frequently, I look up from whatever I was doing and realize that two weeks or two years have passed.

Joan of Arcadia has been given a full-season order. Not only was my prediction smashed, but the show is quickly growing into one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to this evening just because of the show. CBS finally succeeded in getting me to turn in. DH and I watch Joan, he watches JAG, and I like The Handler -- which makes this the first time ever that one of the Big Three won our viewership, not just for one show, but for a full evening.
Jake 2.0 got a full-season order. This surprises me because the ratings are so low, tho I understand they're still higher than The Twilight Zone last year. The show continues to be missing .. something. I'm not sure what since the episodes are well-constructed technically.
Angel also got a full-season order some time ago. I'm liking the season so far, and I have yet to see any indication of peoples' fears that Spike would take over the show. Glad to see that Amy Acker (Fred) has gained some weight. She was looking sickly last year. I'll be forever befuddled by the idea that people find emaciation to be beautiful.
Smallville even managed to surprise me this season with one episode (Extinction) that was so well done that I keep tuning in just in case there's another one. That episode was written by former Buffy scribe Drew Greenberg, a man who was rapidly becoming one of my favorite writers back when he was on Buffy. If he can make Smallville good, then I will happily add him to my list of false gods.

Got my work contract today. I'm not 75% percent as I had thought; I'm 60%. As far as I can tell, that makes very little difference since I don't need Health Insurance.
I've also been asked to apply to be the Director of the Nagasaki Program, a one-semester foreign exchange dealie that the school does. I'm the third candidate in line. It worries me that I'm being asked to apply for a Directorship at a place where I've worked less than 2 months and have yet to have any kind of job evaluation. All told, this screams of a position that is so poorly organized and that requires so much work (with no additional pay beyond assuming an extra class) that the department has to foist it off on the unknowning. That said, if they offered me the job, I think I'd take it. Since I have no children and Spring is DH's busiest season, I'm in a position where I could put in the hours without too much difficulty.
Just finished handing back the third journal collection. The syllabus says six collections over the semester, but I don't think we're going to have time for that. I may have to shuffle some points. This works out well, tho, since we've had a lot more peer review days than the syllabus allows for. Just finished collecting the third paper today. We definitely have time for the two more required ones.
Still no sign of the phantom student.

Grandma is home from the hospital. Rather, she's at the nursing home in her hometown for rehab. She's doing okay, except that she refuses to believe that she needs rehab and keeps trying to leave. Since she's on a feeding tube and has a lot of disorientation, no one is ready to discharge her.
DH and I are supposed to go visit her tonight. Whether or not we can depends on if the Girl's Volleyball team wins at the State semi-finals tonight. They're being held in Greenbay (about 4 hours from here) and DH had to take the band up. If the team wins, he has to return with the band tomorrow for the finals.
