I hate to ask the question, because it probably has the same corollary as its opposite, but: WHAT ELSE CAN GO RIGHT!
Yesterday I purchased, with help from one of my many click-on-things-to-redeem-for-gift-certificates sites, Forever Knight - Trilogy, Part I.
::dances without any regard for this thing called rhythm::
All in all, the DVDs are pretty bare by DVD standards. Aside from a few trailers for other vampire related movies, they contain nothing that I've been able to find except the episodes. However, they contain the whole episode. The whole original Canadian cut of each episode, which is 4-5 minutes longer than the American version. In some cases, such as the episode "Feeding the Beast," that 4-5 minutes contained most of the plot.
Now, I've seen the Canadian cuts. Like most TV videotape junkies, I'm a stickler for completeness. I have two sets of FK tapes: one from the American version, and another from the Canadian. But, the Canadian tapes are terrible quality. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Think of those umpteenth generation TP tapes and reduce their quality a few more steps.
So I'm on an FK binge, rewatching all those episodes and actually being able to see them. YEAH!
And now I can get rid of two sets of tapes. One of which will be shipped off to
sage_theory just as soon as I can find the box they were packed in.
On top of this excitement, a recent foray into a comic book store revealed that Marvel is publishing a new volume of .. ready .. "The New Mutants."
I see a lot of collective blank faces.
"The New Mutants" was the comic that got me into comics back in the late 80s. It was easily and by far my favorite of all the X-titles. I had a completely unhealthy crush on Doug and Rictor for many years.
Naturally it was canceled soon after I discovered it.
Then there were rumors that it would be brought back. The rumors grew and grew ... and Marvel changed their minds at the last minute and created the title "Generation X," which didn't hold any kind of candle IMO to "The New Mutants." Later they created "The New Warriors." In all fairness, this is my second favorite title of all times, in part because of my terrible crush on Robbie Baldwin. It worked as a lesser substitute, but still wasn't NM.
NW too was canceled. Probably because I liked it.
Although it had a second volume a few years back, I wasn't in any position to be able to indulge.
And now NM is back and I discovered that after only three months of publication, so I was able to buy all the issues for cover price.
Since I will, in all likelihood, be the only person who reads and likes this new volume, I imagine it too will soon be canceled, with issues devaluing to be essentially worthless. Such is my taste for the finer things in life.
Finally, there's this thing called work.
I got my schedule yesterday and I'm on for three classes next semester! Since the maximum allowed is four, that means I'll be a 75% percent employee with actual benefits and stuff. This will be my largest work contract in ... far too long.
I'll be teaching three sections of English 123 (aka Freshman Composition II), on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9, 11, and 2. Can you really fault that kind of schedule? Three classes, one prep, three "in the office" work days a week.
And no "Intro to Literature" this time.
Life is good.
