In the five days since Lolly died, Dilly's behavior has changed remarkably.
At first she was super affectionate. In true cat fashion, she would spend 5 minutes on my lap, then 5 minutes on DH's lap. All day. She just kept swaping back and forth. I'm not sure if she was depressed, or if she was keying into our sadness.
She soon started playing again. However, she hasn't had anyone to play with, and it's obvious that she needs someone. Her play was growing more and more erratic, almost desperate. Last night she started attacking my slippered foot the same way she used to attack her sister. Since my foot isn't a kitten, it didn't work well for either of us.
So today DH and I went out to get her a playmate. The Humane Society had called us about a fifteen week old stray that they thought would be good. On meeting her, we realized she was just too much cat for us. She was huge and very, very friendly. Her behavior best resembled a Cocker Spaniel puppy. My mom would love her.
We decided instead to try our luck with an 8 week old striped calico. She's currently named Daisy, as in the duck. The Humane Society folks named her that. Her brother is Donald.
Dilly's not sure what to make of the new addition. Both kittens are terrified and Dilly has become extra clingy. Daisy is so young that she just obliviously plays with everything. Our kitchen floor is white tile with an inset design of small blue tiles. Earlier, Daisy was stalking and pouncing on the blue tiles.
Dilly's gotten in a few good swats, and I learned that cats growl. Mostly they're co-existing unless the demilitarized zone of about six inches is crossed.
In other news, I'm pleased to see that Joan of Arcadia is doing well in the ratings. It looks like my 5 episode prediction was wrong. I'm still watching Jake 2.0. The show continues to be really bland. The ratings continue to slip. I wonder if there's a connection.
Fanfic I'd like to see: Jake 2.0 / Tomorrow People crossover in which TIM hacks Jake. Why? I don't know. I'm sure TIM would have a good reason.
