It's time.
The house is in shambles: most of it is in boxes; what isn't in boxes is on the floor. Mom arrived today and promptly panicked because the kitchen wasn't as fully packed as she would have liked. Grandma and Dad-in-Law arrived a few hours later as planned. Help is plentiful. DH is currently having a conniption fit (literally, I think) about the truck. Apparently U-Haul's policy (which they don't bother to tell you) is that trucks are only guaranteed within 24 hours of your reservation. They don't see this as a problem. If your truck isn't ready on the day for which you reserved it, just pick it up the next day. So what if you were planning to move on Wednesday. Just do it on Thursday instead? Except that all of our help is lined up for tomorrow and on Thursday we have no legal entitlement to be here, so we'd be squatting. Without electricity or a phone.
This is a word of warning to anyone who ever may need to use U-Haul. Reserve your truck for the day before you want it. Better yet, just don't.
So we're moving. If we have to strap the piano to our backs and walk to 180 miles down the road, then so be it.
I will be completely incommunicado until at least Friday. After that, I don't know.
Our belongings are going into storage; we're going to my mother's house. In two weeks we'll move our stuff out of storage into our new house and we will never, ever again have to deal with a landlord.
I believe that this landlord is personally responsible for the recent increase in new house sales. Anything else I could say would be legally dangerous, so I won't.
Rant over. I'll update again when I'm in a better mood. My apologies.
